Senior Engineering Manager - Mobile
Are you up for a challenge? We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers making mobile apps (Android & iOS) at a tech Scale-Up. At a pivotal moment for the company, you will lead the evolution of their software foundation as they expand into new connected products and ecosystem experiences.
Responsibilities - Senior Engineering Manager
As the Senior Software Engineering Manager, you will lead and scale the software engineering team, directly shaping the technical foundation, culture, and practices required to deploy top-tier mobile software efficiently. Reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer, this is a hands-on leadership role where you will drive architecture, participate in code reviews, and steer critical technical decisions.
A core focus of this position will be pioneering AI-assisted development practices to accelerate team velocity and elevate code quality.
Working closely with Product, UX, Hardware, and Marketing, you will serve as the bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities:
- Engineering Leadership: Manage and mentor a cross-functional engineering team (iOS, Android, and QA), taking full ownership of core mobile application experiences, including IoT device pairing, syncing, OTA updates, and onboarding.
- Modernize Engineering Practices: Drive a cultural and technical shift by introducing AI-assisted development, modern tooling, and agile engineering practices to optimize daily delivery.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner as a key peer alongside Digital Product Management and UX Design to ensure engineering, design, and product strategies are deeply integrated.
- Hardware-Software Integration: Engage early with Hardware Engineering teams to influence connectivity and interaction decisions upstream, ensuring seamless digital execution downstream before hardware specs are locked.
- Ecosystem & Infrastructure: Collaborate with Direct-to-Consumer (DTC), Marketing, and central IT/Data teams to build shared frameworks, platform efficiencies, and cohesive omni-channel user experiences.
- Technical Governance: Maintain a strong stance on data architecture, security, and scalability. Establish clear engineering standards for application performance, reliability, and automated testing.
- Talent Development: Attract, grow, and retain top-tier engineering talent, cultivating a curious, high-performing team that takes pride in shipping quality products.
Requirements - Senior Engineering Manager
This is what you will need to be successful in this role:
- Proven Mobile Leadership: Experience leading mobile software engineering teams within a fast-paced, consumer product or consumer hardware environment.
- Hands-on Transformation Catalyst: A leader who stays close to the code, leads by example, and possesses a strong vision for how AI-assisted development can amplify a lean team's capabilities.
- Full-Stack & Cloud Fluency: A solid understanding of backend systems, cloud infrastructure (specifically GCP), and backend-as-a-service platforms (like Firebase) to guide system design trade-offs and seamless mobile-to-cloud integrations.
- Exceptional Communicator: Ability to navigate conversations effortlessly between hardware engineers, marketing teams, and software developers to build alignment without unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Architecture & Security Focus: A disciplined approach to data architecture, privacy, and scalable systems from day one.
- Startup Agility: Thrives in a collaborative environment where product, design, and engineering operate as equals, and is energized by turning constraints into creative technical solutions.
